These Agencies were awarded funds from the 2007 Harvest Ball.
Assistance League of Kansas City– Provides clothing, winter coats,
health kits, shoe vouchers for school-age children. Funds go to clothe 1133
elementary school children in Kearney, Liberty, North Kansas City, Park Hill,
Plate County R-3 school districts. 262 volunteers provided over 22,000
volunteer- hours for 11, 540 children in 2006.
Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Greater KC- Funding to establish a
satellite office in the Northland to serve school-aged children in Clay and
Platte counties. (1,120 Northland children matched with adult volunteers in
2006)
Children’s Mercy Hospital & Clinics/Children’s Mercy Northland– Clinic
served 14,395 Northland children in the Northland Urgent Care and specialty
clinics in 2006 despite the ability to pay as non reimbursed costs increase and
funding is cut.
Clay County African American Legacy, Inc.- After school program for high
school youth at-risk of failure and/or delinquency; provides academic
assistance, cognitive and social skill building classes.
Clay County Clothes Closet– Clothing for Northland children and families
referred from area schools, i.e. victims of fire, special clothing for school
functions/activities. 1,796 served by 82 volunteers; no paid staff.
Concerned Care– This program helps 115 adults with developmental
disabilities living in their own apartments, plus 600 youth and adults in year
round recreational and service activities. Funding provides emergency medical or
dental needs not covered by Medicaid.
Earnest Shepherd Memorial Youth Center, Inc.- provides educational and
recreational programs and facilities for youth and the community; funding to
expand a Leadership After School Workshop program.
The Family Conservancy- Funding to expand Early Intervention to Achieve
School Success program, involving parents with early education professionals to
help young children at-risk enter school ready to learn. More than 6,000
Northland residents served in 2006.
Food for Families- Supplement and expand existing program partnering
Crestview Elementary and Northgate Middle school families with backpacks
purchased with kid friendly items, food and clothing.
Freedom House– Funding to provide food pantry facilities serving a number
of Liberty human service programs. Freedom House is operated totally by
volunteers.
Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter- Increased need for food, shelter and
veterinarian services for approximately 100 animals at a time.
Harvesters-The Community Food Network- Monies to aid on-going
distribution of food for emergency assistance to local food pantries; 57
Northland programs serviced in Clay, Platte and Ray counties received 1,348,907
lbs. of food and products in 2006 from Harvesters.
Healthy Families Counseling and Support– Home and community-based
parenting support and mental health services during critical life stages to
families in the Northland. Focus is on at- risk dads and first time mothers and
their infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers. 680 families; 1,350 students,
parent-aid services, new at-risk families of newborns served in 2006.
Hillcrest Transitional Housing of Clay County– Transitional housing
program serving formerly homeless Northland families who are working full-time
and moving toward self-sufficiency. 485 individuals served and 872 more through
referral system in 2006.
Ian’s Rainbow Flu Program- Funding provides for health education and
financial support for flu shots for at-risk children in schools, churches and
day care centers. Northland service is primarily Platte County.
Immacolata Manor– Serves women with developmental disabilities
(residential and respite care) with funding for the “My Day” program, keeping
them involved with activities that enhance their lives in the community. Harvest
Ball funding is for community program and transportation costs, Health Team and
Residential care provided to them.
In As Much Ministry- Funds to provide $20 vouchers for low-income
families registered as food pantry clients and purchase socks, underwear and
shoes for the school aged children (NE Clay County).
Liberty Meals on Wheels- The program brings nutritional support (14,600
meals last year to 137 individuals) to shut-ins. Funding provides monies to
supplement costs so that those unable to pay the $2.50 meal cost can remain in
their homes. Volunteer drivers on 11 routes, 2,200 volunteer hours.
Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary- Provides habitat for wildlife
and natural history education, Funding directed toward training volunteers to
help visitors have a wonderful outdoor experience.
Metropolitan Lutheran Ministries- Providing emergency assistance: food,
utilities, rent and seasonal items, i.e., fans, blankets, school supplies, to
1,824 Northland households. (5,607 individuals served last year.)
Miles of Smiles– Funding to help provide dental equipment, enabling,
charitable dental care to children; 11,300 procedures for 4,131 Northland
children in 2006.
Northland Assistance Center- Serves residents in Clay and Platte Counties
with emergency assistance for household expenses: food, rent, and utilities
(3,260 individuals in 2006).
Northland Christmas Store– Children’s toys, gifts and food are provided
for this community volunteer service in Clay County, which served 977 families
(2,926 individuals) for the holidays in 2006.
Northland Early Education Center- Care for 138 children, 65 with special
needs, through preschool and before and after school programs. Funding supports
the education program, as well as therapeutic intervention, for young children
with special developmental and learning needs.
Northland Health Care Access– Providing primary and specialty health care
for uninsured and under-insured Northland families (5,113 patients in 2006).
Harvest Ball funds directed to medical care.
Northland Meals on Wheels– Volunteers transport and serve elderly and
handicapped persons a hot nutritious meal in their own homes each day. Funds pay
for those who cannot afford these meals. 278 people were served 34,429 meals
delivered by over 160 volunteers (who also pay for their own transportation) in
2006 in Southern Clay County.
Northland Neighborhoods, Inc.- Program helps revitalize neighborhoods by
involving citizens in community building. Monies will be used for minor home
repair delivered through the “Neighbors helping Neighbors” program in 83
neighborhoods, social service groups and faith-based organizations. (105 home
repairs and 4,500 people affected by the programs in 2006.)
Platte Senior Services, Inc.- Funding provides assistance to PSSI’s
nutrition programs for low-income homebound elderly and disabled persons. (969
seniors received 24,341 meals in their homes in 2006.)
The Salvation Army–Excelsior Springs- Harvest Ball funding for the
Christmas Toy Shop and food baskets for low-income families in Excelsior Springs
(provided 1,200 toys and served 1,833 people in 2006).
The Salvation Army-Northland Corps– Clay and Platte Counties are served
through emergency assistance for families in crisis and programs for children
(5,678 served in 2006). Funding is directed for Summer Day Camp field trips,
transportation and meals for economically disadvantaged Northland children.
Shepherd’s Center of the Northland– Senior volunteers helping other
seniors remain independent and productive. Funds will help with handyman
services and supplies, transportation, a new exercise program and enrichment
activities for seniors. (980 clients, 419 volunteers provided 30,741 volunteer
hours in 2006)
Southern Platte County Emergency Assistance Center– Funding to help this
all-volunteer organization supply and deliver food, household supplies and
personal care items for families in crisis and senior citizens. (1,578
families/4,060 individuals served in 2006)
Special Olympics Missouri-KC Metro- Funds to help enable Special Olympics
to maintain and reach new Northland athletes, providing scholarships for
participation in state local events. (376 Northland residents helped in 2006 in
21 sanctioned sports. 20,000 volunteer hours in the Northland in 2006)
Synergy Services, Inc.- Program provides a 24-hour crisis line, food,
shelter, safety, counseling and case management for battered women, troubled
teens, and abused and neglected children. Harvest Ball funds are directed toward
the Synergy House Emergency Shelter for teens who are homeless/ runaways in
crisis. (354 abused and homeless youth were provided 3,100 bed nights of shelter
and support in 2006. Note: Safehaven accommodated 208 women/18 children and the
Children’s Center, 85 children, in 2006; 12,483 volunteer hours)
Triality, Inc.- Funding for Trialilty Tots, an early intervention center
for children, ages 2 to 5- years-old, who are medically fragile and/or have
special needs. This includes an infant stimulation program and developmental
preschool. (259 children were served in 2006)
Tri-County Mental Health Services, Inc.– Behavioral health services for
Northland residents. Funding to enable older adults suffering from mental health
issues access to care, and heighten awareness of depression and other treatable
illnesses using outreach and care coordination. (Served in 2006: 8,750
individuals with 22,129 visits; 1,407 crisis interventions; 36,453 prevention
services; monitored 4,509 individuals on medications with 18,129 visits)
United Services Community Action Agency-Platte County– Funding provides
for toys and gifts for the holidays for 1,100 Platte County children and seniors
through United Services Platte County Christmas Store.
YMCA of Greater K.C.-Clay/Platte– Funding will aid Northland adaptive
programs in providing scholarships and logisitical needs, i.e., a chair lift for
the indoor pool, for children with physical and mental disabilities. (YMCA
served 3,665 special needs children in 2006.)
The Harvest Ball 2007 has distributed, in fund-raising dollars and designated
gifts, a total of $416,500. Over the last twenty one years, The Harvest
Ball has distributed $4,108,744.
